FIRST, be sure that the instrument is firmly held by the
right forearm only, it being clearly understood that the left hand is for fingering only and not for support. SECOND, let the left wrist be well curved round so that
the hand and fingers can be held directly over the strings. The fingers can then be more readily adjusted to form the more difficult chords that are required in the following pages. THIRD, stop the strings immediately behind the frets
and keep the nails of the left hand well trimmed so that they do not come in contact with the strings when stopping them. The student is advised when learning a new piece of music
to see what chords are not in his repertoire and practice accordingly. There is one chord which has not yet been practiced.
By referring to the chord chart it will be seen that it is
a difficult diminished 7 th. Practice it in the sequence in which it appears below:
